　　　アラビア湾の生態系に関するまとまった資料はなかなか見つけだせなかったので手元にある資料をまとめ始めたが、部分的には詳しくても体系的な記述を出来るには至らなかった。 

アラムコワールドが「アラビア湾西部の小棲息圏(Biotopes of the Western Arabian Gulf)あるいはサウジアラビアの海洋生物と環境(Marine Life and Environment of Saudi Arabia)」と云う題名の285頁に及ぶ写真入りの本を1977年にアラムコは出版した事を紹介し、その抄訳を掲載しているのを見つけた。その一方で、世界自然保護監視センター(The World Conservation Monitoring Center)が「湾岸戦争環境情報サービス（海洋環境への打撃）」活動の中でアラビア湾の生態系を体系的にレビューしている事を知った。この二つの資料で生態系の概要は私なりに把握できたのでこれにこれまで集めた個別の詳細を加えればほぼまとめられると考えた。 

ところが、どちらの資料も魚については種類別に詳しくは記述しておらず、更に資料を集め始めた。隣の紅海がその澄んだ水質で世界的なスキンダイビングのメッカとなっており、紅海の魚の紹介は詳しい資料があるのに比べて、アラビア湾に関しては調べ始めてもなかなか資料が手に入らなかった。私のリヤド駐在時代の仲間のスキンダイビングの愛好家達は紅海では潜って多くのきれいな海中写真を撮影しているがアラビア湾では潜っては居なかった。カフジの同僚達はアラビア湾に潜っているがこちらは食用に魚を捕獲するのが目的で映像はあまり期待できなかった。やがて珊瑚礁チェック(Reef Check)と云うグループが「アラビア湾の魚(Arabian Gulf Fish)」と題してアラビア湾の魚の水中写真を公開している事を知った。素晴らしい写真集ではあるがアラビア湾に棲息する500種と云われる魚の種類に対してそれらの映像は余りに限られている。 

海が好きで長く海事部長をされていた先輩がアラビア湾での釣りの本を執筆した事を思い出し、またクウェイト研究所が魚の研究を日本の協力で1960年代から始めいたのでそれらの資料も調べ、「おさかなアラビアンナイト千夜一夜物語」と「化石になったアラビア湾の魚(Osteological Comparative Collection of Arabian Gulf Fishes)」に辿り着いた。更にサウジ漁業会社(Saudi Fisheries)が販売魚(Fish Products)を写真とアラビア語を添えて公開しているのも入手した。これらの資料からは少なくともアラビア湾に棲む110種類を越える主な魚の名前の一覧表を得られた。この一覧表に掲載した魚についての詳しい生態や映像は世界魚類センター(World Fish Center)^(注)のウェブ資料から得た。和名と専門用語の照合には、市場魚貝類図鑑およびWeb魚図鑑（小西英人氏）等^(注)を参照させて戴いた。

（注）世界魚類センター(World Fish Center)はCGIA(Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research)の下部組織で国連や世界銀行等の支援を得ている非営利の団体で魚ライブラリも公表している。

（注）市場魚貝類図鑑およびWeb魚図鑑（小西英人氏）等はいずれも良く調べられた素晴らしい資料である。

ここに掲載した映像に関しては出来る限り出典を明記してはいるが、それが欠落している映像もあり、それらについてはこのアラビア湾の紹介の為のみに使用させて戴いているだけなのでご容赦戴きたい。
